Do You Know Who Said That?

Every person I know who majored in English in college loves quotes. There are other people who love quotes, I'm sure, but those of us who spent many an hour pouring over words and absorbing them into our very being. . .well, I think we are predisposed to seek out quotes and collect them.

Having said that, I also believe the personality of said seeker will come through in the quotes she collects. I love the meaningful quotes that Shannon so often refers to--and many of those speak to me too.

Be honest, though, you'd say I was disingenuous if I didn't share these little gems with you, wouldn't you?

  • I love to go shopping at Target. They have so much stuff there, you can buy almost anything, it's really amazing -- Liv Tyler
  • Every man loves the smell of his own farts. -- Icelandic proverb
  • Cocaine is like really evil coffee. -- Courtney Love
  • Any girl can be glamorous. All you have to do is stand still and look stupid. -- Hedy Lamarr
  • I read in the newspapers they are going to have 30 minutes of intellectual stuff on television every Monday from 7:30 to 8 to educate America. They couldn't educate America if they started at 6:30. -- Groucho Marx
  • A day without sunshine is like, you know, night. -- Steve Martin
  • Mick Jagger is about as sexy as a pissing toad. -- Truman Capote
  • Women's Lib? Poor little things. They always look so unhappy. Have you noticed how bitter their faces are? -- Joan Crawford
  • The American people are tired of liars and people who pretend to be something they're not. -- Hillary Clinton (the irony is killing me)
  • I don't really think, I just walk. -- Paris Hilton
  • The first man to compare the cheeks of a young woman to a rose was obviously a poet; the first to repeat it was possibly an idiot. -- Salvador Dali
  • When kids hit one year old, it's like hanging out with a miniature drunk. You have to hold onto them. They bump into things. They laugh and cry. They urinate. They vomit. -- Johnny Depp
  • Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. -- Chilihead

ust because you can, doesn't mean you should. -- Chilihead

I say this ALL The time to my kids... great quotes...

another one of my faves is from John Wayne.. "Life is hard. It's harder when you're stupid." and from Mark Twain. "It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

My kids hear this one from me: There's never a good reason to do the wrong thing.

I beg to differ . . . I am older than you, so I coined that term before your young self thought of it. Attribution, dahling, attribution!

"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should"
~Pam

So there! : )

I have many favorites:
"You can't control the wave, but you can learn to surf"--perfect for childraising
"A year from now you may wish you had started today"--hmmm, applies to pretty much anything
"Everything you want is on the other side of fear"--gets me out of my comfort zone

And thanks to Dana, I now have a line to use on the boys when they do things they shouldn't because someone told them to. :) Thanks!

Dang, I loves me some quotes. : )

"Any girl can be glamorous. All you have to do is stand still and look stupid. -- Hedy Lamarr" Dang! I'll never be glamorous... I can't sit still.

Oh the Clinton quote is absolutely ironic! No wonder she doesn't appear to have many close friends.

And I'll beg to differ with both you and Pam: I do believe Paul said, "'Everything is permissible'--but not everything is beneficial. 'Everything is permissible'--but not everything is constructive." Present day, he would have said it the same as you both.

I eagerly await the extended works of Chili, on bookstore shelves soon.

L.O.V.E. them each and E.V.E.R.Y. one! I hosted a carnival last week for inspirational quotes, but now you have me thinking I should host one for FUNNY, HILARIOUS, LAUGH OUT LOUD quotes.

Cause, you know, laughing is almost as good as {fill in the blank, I was scared to}. :)

Your sense of humor parallels mine...(do I need to go further than "I had to eat my own fingers"????). Thanks for the smiles, they sure were welcome today :).

Love a good quote. I've been thinking of doing a meme of sorts along that line.

One of my favorites - "The only gift is a portion of thyself." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

These are great! One of my favorites is by Miss Piggy - "Never eat more than you can lift." Hmm, maybe that's why I keep gaining weight!

Johnny Depp...not just good looking but a wicked good sense of humour too! Loved that quote.

Erma Bombeck is one of my longtime favourites. Here's one of hers which I've always loved...

"Giving birth is little more than a set of muscular contractions granting passage of a child. Then the mother is born."

love these. my husband ran across a page of dan quayle quotes the other day, some of which put the classic george w. quotes to shame. we had a few good laughs.

here they are: http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/d/dan_quayle.html

and my favorite?

It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it.
Dan Quayle

but i also Looooove the "
I am not part of the problem. I am a Republican."

yes! hilarity.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. -- Chilihead

That sums it all up! Hillary Clinton is ironic, and makes sense coming from her mouth.

Thanks for the quotes!

My favourite is the Johnny Depp one. It parallels what I think about small choldren and bouncy castles. Under the age of three they just shouldn't bother - for them it is the same as walking normally - they take two steps and fall sideways into a wall, get up, take another couple and BAM! over they go again. Bouncy castles really are wasted on the small.

I think the second one is my favorite!

So funny! Hey I am/was an English major and I too LOVE quotes! These were better than the ones I am throwing out like 'its never to late to become what you should have been'......I will add you to my blog roll on my site!

I'll give you one of mine (meaning I said it)...

The only things separating us from the monkeys are toilet paper and manners. Without them we are just apes picking bugs off each other.

My daughter loves that one.

Oh Hillary, how do you keep a straight face?!

I am, of course, without a single quote as I smile like the village idiot after having read your list. This was brilliant. Thank you. Oh, to find Target worthy of awe. Sigh.

Awesome collection!
